COVID-19 related traffic data from Smart Pedestrian Crosswalk (Second report)

Period 16.03.2020-22.03.2020 “Quarantine”

This week, a strongly suggested quarantine in Estonia was established. Moving around in the city was only allowed if really needed.
This week we had a total of 22 224 cars crossing the crosswalk at Pepleri’s street. On workdays, there were a total of 17 310 cars and on the weekend 4914 cars. The ratio of workdays to the weekend was 78:22%.
The day with most traffic was Monday with 3844 cars.

Period 23.03.2020-29.03.2020 “Second week of quarantine”

Last week we had a total of 20 901 cars driving over the crosswalk. On workdays, there were a total of 16 488 cars and on the weekend 4413 cars. The ratio of workdays to the weekend was 79:21%.
The day with most traffic was Monday with 3460 cars.

Comparison of the periods

Overall, last week the traffic on Pepleri’s street decreased by 6%.
Workdays difference was -5%
The weekend difference was -11%
Workdays and weekend ratio changed from 78:22% to 79:21%

Discussion

The total number of vehicles decreased further, but of course not as significantly as in the comparison of the first and second week of quarantine. The ratio of working days to weekends remained almost the same.
